WBAL reports a Maryland man is among 13 now facing federal charges stemming from Wednesday's riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Christopher Alberts was charged Thursday with carrying a readily accessible firearm on the Capitol grounds. Specifically, the 33-year-old allegedly had a 9mm handgun and ammunition.

“The lawless destruction of the U.S. Capitol building was an attack against one of our nation’s greatest institutions,” Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, said in a statement. “We are resolute in our commitment to holding accountable anyone responsible for these disgraceful criminal acts, and to anyone who might be considering engaging in or inciting violence in the coming weeks – know this: You will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Around 40 people were charged in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia with offenses including unlawful entry, curfew violations and firearms-related crimes.
