Middle Schools Removed From This Years BOE Capital Improvement Projects Priorities List

When the Allegany County Board of Education decided last year to move a proposed new Allegany High School to the top of Capital Improvement Projects priorities list- it also bumped needed improvements to Cumberland’s two middle schools a decade down the road.  The BOE, which has included renovations and additions at Braddock and Washington middle schools on its CIPā€ˆfor the past several years, removed them from this year’s list — partly to assure county leaders that they won’t be asked to fund two additional major projects in the decade ahead. Instead, the board plans to seek around $2 million in mostly state funds for roof replacements at the middle schools over the next few years. According to a recent feasibility study Full renovations at Washington and Braddock were expected to cost an estimated $27 million and $31 million respectively.
