Two patients were transported from a two-vehicle crash on I-68 west of exit 40 in LaVale Sunday afternoon, according to Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.

“The Allegany County Joint Communications Center began taking calls reporting a serious accident on I-68 in the westbound lane, west of exit 40 around 3:15 p.m.,” said Todd Bowman, public information officer for the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.

Units from LaVale Fire Department, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services EMS Division, LaVale Rescue Squad and Maryland State Police responded to the incident.

Two patients were transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland. Conditions of the patients are not known at this time, according to Bowman.

Immediately following the incident, MSP began detouring traffic on to Rt-40 west, closing the interstate to allow EMS and fire crews to access and treat patients, Bowman added.
