County Commissioners Decide to Not Increase Property Taxes

May 2nd, 2025 by WCBC Radio

During last night’s Allegany County Commissioners meeting, an outline of the FY 2026 budget was presented which included the $0.02 property tax increase.  However, the Commissioners voted against increasing property tax altogether.  Instead, they are prepared to pull the amount from the County’s fund balance.  This would increase the total pulled from the fund to about $2.9 million instead of $1.8 million.  Commissioner Dave Caporale and the other commissioners said they don't want to increase the tax this year…

“You know, this is an extraordinary year for us and a lot of moving parts, many things happening, but I, you know, I believe we felt strongly about having no increase in this tax this year.”
