Jodi Eirich, current director for the Allegany County Animal Shelter, was on hand at the county work session to give an operations update to commissioners. Eirich said that currently the census at the shelter is 124 dogs and 249 cats so they are overcrowded, and she would like to see smaller numbers to make care and housing easier…
“I’m going to say 90 dogs, because I would really like to not have any dogs in crates. We would like to have them all in kennels where they have more room. But unfortunately, that’s just not the case and some dogs are in crates. So that would be my goal, to eliminate the crates entirely.”
She also reminded everyone that right now, there are no adoption fees…
“Animals are free, with an approved application. We are still holding to our standard as far as if people can afford pets, if they should have pets, if they returned pets before or dumped pets – so they have to have an approved application.”
