On September 21st, 2025, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a reported breaking and entering in progress at a business on Greene Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the front door glass had been shattered. Officers cleared the business, and did not locate anyone inside. Upon reviewing video surveillance, and speaking to several witnesses, the suspect was identified as William Stewart Sr. He was later found in the immediate area and placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is awaiting his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

The Cumberland Police Department received assistance from deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office.
