On Wednesday, December 31st,2025 the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 200 Block of Spring Street for an assault. As a Cumberland Police Officer arrived, the officer observed Brian Alan James assault a female victim in the middle of the roadway. The officer observed injuries consistent with the assault, and James was placed under arrest. Following his arrest, James was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, and later released on his own recognizance after seeing a District Court Commissioner.
