Top 12 Most Compelling People of 2025

December 29th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Just as there are memorable stories throughout the year, there are also people who leave their mark on the community. 2025 was no exception. This week, WCBC introduces you to the 12 Most Compelling People of the Year, and reflects on their good – or bad – effects on the area…

JOHN TAUBE – The former director for the Allegany County Library System got the attention of both the county government and the community when he said if funding for libraries was not increased, up to three branches may have to close.  That brought severe criticism of the library budget and finances and in July, Taube was asked to step down from his position.  He was replaced by long-time library employee Lisa McKenney.

DAVID JONES – David Jones always greets you with a smiling face. He attends almost every county commissioners’ meeting.  He began his work career in the Department of Education before coming to work at Allegany College of Maryland in 1996 under then-president Donald Alexander. In 2015, he was appointed Vice President of Advancement and Community Relations. Now, the homegrown Frostburg State graduate is the sixth president of ACM, officially taking office in January.

CHRIS VAN HOLLEN – Maryland’s Senior Senator has become one of the most outspoken opponents of President Donald Trump. On almost every issue, Van Hollen has had press conferences or rallies about corruption in the executive office. His real moment in the limelight this year was his fight to keep Maryland resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia from deportation, including a high-profile trip to El Salvador to visit Garcia in prison. Garcia is back in the states and free while a judge considers his case.
