March 12th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

As the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament (ACIT) celebrates the culmination of its 61st tournament at Frostburg State University, the Bishop Walsh Spartan fans had many reasons to celebrate.  For the second year in a row, the Bishop Walsh Spartans have won two of their three games in the ACIT with historic wins over Catholic High School of Virginia Beach, VA and Bullis Prep of Potomac MD, with major victories completing a phenomenal season of high-level basketball play.  The biggest celebration at half time of the Bishop Walsh vs. Catholic High School game was a moment to remember when the Spartan faithful honored the three School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sister Kathleen, Sister Francita and Sister Phyllis who have collectively taught young people for over 181 years.  The Sisters were presented an autograph team basketball by Principal Jennifer Flinn, gift bags by the BW Western Maryland Catholic Schools Alumni Association.  In addition, the Sisters were presented red, pink and yellow roses by the Bishop Walsh Cheerleaders and the Burgundy Team,  with each rose representing the hundreds of student lives they have influenced.  Receiving a standing ovation, the good Sisters were treated to the Notre Dame Victory March that filled the air of the FSU Cordts Arena as the tribute concluded.
