Commissioners Reflect On State Response To Flood

May 28th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Governor Wes Moore visited Allegany County just two days after flooding occurred in Georges Creek. County Commission President Dave Caporale told WCBC it was good to see state staff on the scene the next day…

“They have been very hands-on and very helpful going through this process. I think the governor had some of his staff here as early as Wednesday morning helping us to assess the situation.”

Governor Moore declared a state of emergency for the county and Senator Chris Van Hollen arrived the following day to help figure out next steps, according to Commissioner Bill Atkinson…

“He got to see the actual destruction that happened and how bad it was. I think it was good to have him here so he could literally see what happened. It’s one thing to see picture of it, but you don’t get the whole true picture of the whole thing until you see it in person.”
