Cumberland City Council considering ordinance for Air B&B owners

April 7th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

Air B&B owners and owners of similar rentals in the City will soon be under a new ordinance being looked a t by the Cumberland mayor and City Council.  At Tuesday’s work session, an outline was presented by Kevin Thacker of Code Compliance indicating that there is no licensing currently in place for the 60 buildings in the city housing 74 short-term rentals. Of those, only one is submitting the required hotel/motel tax. The new ordinance will require all properties to collect that tax. The licensing of the properties would be on a yearly basis with a $100 per year per unit fee as well as annual inspections.  Short-term rentals have become increasingly popular in the last few years as alternatives to hotel stays for those traveling for business or pleasure.
