The Cumberland City Police have arrested 56-year-old Teresa Marie Walters of Cumberland on charges related to forgery, theft, and embezzlement.
On Thursday, Walters was apprehended following the issuance of an Arrest Warrant by the Allegany County District Court. This arrest stems from a July 2023 incident where an elderly victim reported fraudulent activities concerning their finances.
Investigations revealed that Walters, who had been acting as a caregiver, gained unauthorized access to the victim’s personal documents and fraudulently obtained over $100,000. After the investigation, charges were applied for, leading to the District Court issuing an Arrest Warrant. Walters, during her Initial Appearance before the District Court Commissioner, was released on a $20,000 unsecured personal bond. Charges against Walters include obtaining property from a vulnerable adult, forgery of private documents, theft scheme involving over $100,000, and embezzlement-misappropriation.
