Issues Regarding EMS Leadership Rectified

According to the Cumberland Times News, county officials had given a local union until December 10th to substantiate claims that leadership of the Emergency Medical Services is unfit. After a recent “majority vote of no confidence,” the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1715 in Cumberland formally asked Allegany County officials to remove Christopher Biggs as EMS chief due to a long list of allegations including questionable ethics and integrity.  Ken McKenzie is the union president recently addressed the matter during a public meeting of the County Commissioners…

The Times News reports that  James Pyles, director of the county’s Department of Emergency Services, said concerns raised had “been rectified.”  The county agreed to investigate details of the allegations, and IAFF Local 1715 was expected to present the additional information Dec. 6 however Pyles said that didn’t happen. County Commissioners President Jake Shade told the union president earlier this month said the county would look at any evidence pertaining to the union’s accusations…

Pyles reports that the county’s attorney, Lee Beeman Jr., set a deadline of Dec. 10 for the "alleged additional information” .
