Over $100 million in grants from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources will be used to expand and enhance public access to outdoor recreation throughout the state. Program Open Space and the Community Parks and Playgrounds programs assist the state in meeting the challenges of land conservation and recreation. Maryland DNR Secretary Josh Kurtz says the two programs allow the state to partner with communities and provide outdoor spaces and activities close to every Marylander. Locally, Allegany County received $28,800 for improvements at Mount Pleasant Park in the city of Frostburg, while $88,000 went to Garrett County for a Town Park splash pad.
