Maryland recently enacted Eric’s ID Law, requiring the Motor Vehicle Administration to include a butterfly symbol on the driver’s license or ID card of those with hidden disabilities.  MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer says the law is named for Eric Carpenter-Grantham who lives with high-functioning autism…

   

“For individuals like Eric, this symbol can reduce stress and ease communication during everyday interactions, especially with our first responders and with our law enforcement.  This initiative reflects the Moore-Miller Administration’s strong commitment to inclusion, innovation and exceptional customer service.”

Grantham says the law gives him and others a voice…

   

“Being a person with autism I want to let the disability community know that this law was created for you and for me to feel safe and have a voice.”
