WBAL reports that almost eight years after the police in-custody death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, leaders in Maryland expressed outrage over the fatal beating of a Black man by police during a traffic stop in Tennessee. "Enough is enough and I'm tired of it," said Ryan Coleman, president of the Randallstown branch of the NAACP. Coleman watched the videos released Friday night by the city of Memphis, showing Tyre Nichols' interaction with police there. President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to Baltimore on Monday to address replacing the B&P Tunnel. The president is set to discuss how Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding will replace the 150-year-old Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel to address the largest bottleneck for commuters on the Northeast Corridor between Washington, D.C., and New Jersey.
Fatal Weekend Fire in Hampshire County
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office has confirmed that one person was killed Saturday in a fire in Hampshire County. The blaze just after 2 p.m. in the Windy Acres area off U.S. Route 50 drew volunteer firefighters from Hampshire, Mineral and Hardy counties.
Cumberland man charged with Kidnapping, False Imprisonment and Assault
On January 29th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department were contacted by a victim who advised that Timothy Hart Winkler had held them against their will and assaulted them. The victim described the residence as being in the 200 block of Maryland Avenue since January 26th, 2023. The victim indicated that during the incident Winkler approached them, grabbed them by the arm, and threatened them. Winkler then took the victim to a residence in the 200 block of Maryland Avenue where he continued to assault and threaten the victim. Columbia Street fight arrest
On January 29th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of the 300 block of Columbia Street for a reported fight. Upon officer’s arrival they contacted two victims, who advised that Patrick Meade Jr had assaulted them. Officers conducted their investigation through interviews and observing evidence of the crime, and subsequently placed Meade under arrest for the assaults. The victims were transported to a local medical facility for non-life-threatening injuries. Meade was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on a $15,000 bond. Embassy Theater expects to lose considerable revenue during Downtown Construction
The Embassy Theater is one of the downtown businesses expected to take a fiscal hit as a result of the construction set to begin to redesign the mall- and representatives are seeking reimbursment. The major portion of the project will see the reinstallation of Baltimore Street- but will also involve replacing aging underground utility lines and creating a new streetscape that will include trees, shrubs and redesigned parklets. Allegany County officials looking for a new race track promoter
Allegany County officials are back to square one when it comes to finding a new race track promoter to operate at the fairgrounds. For several years prior to 2022, dirt track racing had been operated and promoted by Todd Brode’s group the “Greater Cumberland Raceway”- but the county was informed in February that he would no longer be able to put a race schedule together. A request for proposals led to an agreement with BBUM promotions in April- with that group had planned to update the track facilities and hold weekly races. Cumberland Police report for Sunday
On Saturday, January 28th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police responded to the 900 block of Grand Ave for the report of a breaking and entering in progress. Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted a manager of the rental property. They advised officers that the property should be vacant due to a previous eviction but that there was currently a male subject inside.
