Bench Warrant issued

On Friday, December 30th, 2022, the Cumberland City Police arrested David James See II, 33, of Ridgeley WV. See was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on December 5th, 2022. The warrant alleged that See failed to appear in District Court on that date for a previous theft charge. See was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on his own personal recognizance. Ball Drop, Fireworks Highlight Cumberland’s New Year’s Eve program

The city of Cumberland  is prepared to ring in 2023 with a ball drop and fireworks show Saturday. Once again the  New Year’s Eve festivities will be held on the downtown mall beginning around 10:30 p.m. Open containers, provided they aren’t glass, will be permitted on the mall and in the surrounding area. A number of businesses will stay open late and are planning specials for the evening. The ball will drop from the roof of the Cumberland Arms with fireworks going off just after midnight, January 1st 2023.

Police will focus on DUI, Distracted Drivers for New Years weekend

With New Year’s Eve coming up on Saturday, Maryland State Police are urging those who plan to celebrate with alcohol to be safe and smart and avoid impaired, distracted and aggressive driving. With an increase in impaired drivers expected throughout the state this weekend, state police will be conducting saturation patrols at each of the 23 barracks focusing on impaired, aggressive and distracted driving. Enforcement will be bolstered by impaired driving saturation patrol funds from the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office. Western Maryland property assessments among highest in state

Maryland property values jumped 20.6% over the last three years amid the pandemic’s strong market, the largest increase in recent years according to state tax officials. WBAL reports Maryland’s 2 million property accounts are split into three groups and appraised once every three years to help determine property taxes owed. The 2023 reassessment was the first for the nearly 800,000 commercial and residential properties for this group since the pandemic began, according to the State Department of Assessments and Taxation. The reassessment, based on 89,880 sales, saw an increase in value for 96.4% of the residential properties in the group. Residential…

The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected mayor and City Council members will be held Jan. 3 at City Hall. The event will take place at noon in the rotunda of City Hall with Dawne D. Suspect in deaths of Idaho students arrested in Pennsylvania

A suspect in the killings of four slain Idaho students has been arrested in eastern Pennsylvania, an official said Friday. Arrest paperwork filed by Pennsylvania State Police in Monroe County Court says 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger was being held for extradition in a criminal homicide investigation based on an active arrest warrant for first degree murder issued by the Moscow Police Department and Latah County Prosecutor’s Office. Cumberland fire victim identified

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, the victim of the Dec. 20 fatal fire at 525 Columbia Ave. has been identifed as 35-year-old Brandy Alisea Walker. Positive identification of the victim was made by the Maryland State Medical Examiner's Office. Walker was found dead on the second-floor of the property.
