Henderson Bridge Inspection Tuesday
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Wallace Montgomery, would like to notify the public that the Henderson Avenue Bridge will be undergoing an inspection with flagging operations directing traffic on Tuesday, December 9th between 7am and 2pm. Flagging operations will be in effect to direct traffic through the temporary lane closures.
BENCH WARRANT SERVED
On Sunday, December 7, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a Baltimore City bench warrant on Miljan Miljani Matamoros Ruiz. The warrant was issued as the result of Matamoros Ruiz failing to appear in court on original traffic charges. He was arrested and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing. Comptroller’s Office Receives Award
Maryland’s Office of the Comptroller has received a Certificate of Achievements for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The certificate is for the Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Maryland’s Comptroller has been a recipient of the achievement for the 45th consecutive years. The ACFR serves as the State’s official financial report.
WATI Town Hall Thursday
The West Virginians Against Transmission Line Injustice, or WATI, is holding a town hall meeting regarding the MARL and Valley Link Transmission Lines at Hampshire High School Thursday, December 11th at 7pm. Residents will be able to hear an update of the latest plans for the high power transmission lines, meet with elected officials, and ask questions about how the projects will affect the area.
Red Cross Fire Responses Spike During Holidays
American Red Cross home fire responses spike nearly 20% during the holiday season, primarily from cooking and heating fires. Nearly 600 people yearly rely on the Red Cross after home fires in a typical November and December. Jason Keeling of the Red Cross says families should check smoke detectors frequently and caution taken with both electric and wood heating sources… “It’s essential that homeowners pay attention to how close anything flammable is to electricity or wood stoves, making sure they’re adhering to any recommendations about how to properly use those heating devices.”
Centre Street CDS and Trespassing Arrest
On Sunday, December 7, 2025 at approximately 7:20 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 300 block of S. Centre Street for a trespassing complaint. Officers contacted the staff who reported that a female inside the business was refusing to leave. Police identified the female as Katelin Moorehead and warned her that she needed to leave the property or she would be arrested. Moorehead still refused to leave. ARREST WARRANT SERVED
ARREST On Sunday, December 7, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Julian Dwyer. The warrant was issued as the result of an incident that occurred November 30, 2025 at approximately 10:23 AM when police responded to a residence on Ridgeway Terrace for an assault. Officers contacted the alleged victim who reported that he was assaulted by Dwyer. Officers observed that the victim had sustained injuries from the altercation. Maryland GOP sue state alleging some counties have too many registered voters
The Republican National Committee and the Maryland GOP filed a lawsuit Friday against state election officials, alleging “impossibly high” voter registration numbers, days after the Department of Justice filed a similar suit. The lawsuit claims Howard County and Montgomery County reported more registered voters than citizens over 18. Ten additional counties reported voter registration rates higher than 95%, a mark above the statewide rate, the suit alleges.
