Uniontown Man in Custody Following Threat

A Pennsylvania man is in custody after threatening to “shoot up” the Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.  Codie Holbert of Uniontown was arrested and charged with felony terroristic threats after employees told security at the hospital he had made threats to the hospital if he was terminated from employment there.  Holbert is currently being held at the North Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.

“Silly Bill” Awards

Attorney General Brown Sues Avid Telecom Over Illegal Robocalls

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced today that, along with 48 other Attorneys General’s Offices, his Consumer Protection Division has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, alleging that Michael D. Lansky, LLC, which does business under the name Avid Telecom, and the company’s owner, Michael Lansky, and Vice President, Stacey S. Reeves, initiated and facilitated billions of illegal robocalls in violation of the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the federal Telemarketing Sales Rule, the Maryland Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and other federal and state telemarketing and consumer laws. Frostburg Mass Shooting Arrests

The mass shooting at a Frostburg house party that killed one and wounded four on May 7th was carried out by six young men, four of them current Frostburg State students according to arrest warrants.   Benjamin Atyam 21-year-old Frostburg State student was taken into custody on May 16th during final exams. He has been charged with multiple felonies in the shooting, including first-degree murder.  Atyam acted with five other individuals to commit the murder citing an ongoing feud as the motive.   Javon Epifanio a 22-year-old former Frostburg State University student is the second person charged with first-degree murder…

Raleigh Davis to Serve as Interim Assistant Principal at Bishop Walsh

Bishop Walsh School has announced that Raleigh Davis will serve as interim assistant principal next school year.  Davis is a 2006 Bishop Walsh graduate with eight years of teaching experience and this year she is the first grade instructor at BW.  The current assistant principal, Beth Lattin, will be on maternity leave.  Principal Jennifer Flinn said of Davis, “Raleigh is a Spartan through and through.  She has show dedication and passion for education.”

UPDATED- Downtown Construction for Wednesday, May 24th

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Triton Construction, would like to notify the public that South Mechanic Street will NOT be closed to thru traffic between Baltimore Street and Pershing Street between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24th. There will still be flagging operations within the Mechanic Street/Baltimore Street Intersection, and motorists should expect delays. Additionally, the City does not anticipate any water service interruptions on Wednesday.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT ARREST

On Monday, May 22, 2023 at approximately 6:58 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department responded to UPMC Western Maryland for the report of a stolen motor vehicle.  Police contacted the complainant who reported that Dylan Miller stole a vehicle.  The officer contacted the owner and broadcasted a description of the stolen vehicle.  The vehicle was located traveling on Rt. 220 southbound.   A deputy of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office stopped the vehicle which was operated by Miller.  Miller was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking.  The vehicle was released to the custody of the owner.  Miller…
