OBSTRUCTING & HINDERING ARREST

On Thursday, May 18, 2023 at approximately 5:20 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 600 block of Bedford Street for an overdose.  Police attempted to provide aid to the patient until the Cumberland Fire Department arrived on scene.  During this time, a subject identified as Jaren Brunson interfered with officers performing their duties and caused a disturbance.  Brunson yelled at the officers and refused to listen to their orders.  Brunson then walked outside and began screaming, disrupting other people in the vicinity.  Officers placed Brunson under arrest and he began resisting and pulling…

Queen City Pavement Assault Arrest

On Thursday, May 18, 2023 at approximately 9:22 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Queen City Pavement for an assault in progress.  Police arrived on scene and contacted witnesses who reported that the subjects involved in the fight had left the area.  The subjects were later located in the area of Park Street.  The suspect was identified as Angela Dennison.  It was reported that Dennison struck the victim in the face.  The alleged victim had sustained injuries.  After further investigation, Dennison was placed under arrest.  Dennison began causing a disturbance and refused to listen…

BENCH WARRANTS SERVED

On Thursday, May 18, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served two bench warrants on Samuel Perry.  The warrants were issued as the result of Perry failing to appear in court on original charges of driving on a suspended license.  Perry was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance. The Day of Caring and Sharing is here! Preakness This Weekend; Horse Safety Questioned

The second jewel of horseracing’s Triple Crown takes place this weekend – The Preakness at Pimlico Race Track is one of Maryland’s premiere sporting events.  However, this year, the race is clouded by a plague of racing horse deaths.  Eight horses have died in the past year at Laurel Race Track, prompting a pause in racing there for a week while the track underwent an inspection in April and then seven horses in 10 days were injured and put down before the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.  Animal Wellness Action President Wayne Pacelle says that a culture change is needed…

MD Governor Moore signed a series of gun control measures into law

Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed a series of gun control measures into law on Tuesday, including Senate Bill 1 the “Gun Safety Act of 2023.”  The new measures will raise the qualifying age to receive a handgun permit from 18 to 21 and prohibit anyone with a mental illness and a history of violent behavior from carrying a gun.
