DHHR Announces Funding Opportunity for Expansion of Family Support Centers
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR), Bureau for Family Assistance is seeking to establish and expand Family Support Centers (FSCs) statewide. Applications for funding of new and existing centers will be accepted from May 15 to June 12, 2023. Successful applicants may be awarded up to $250,000 for the state fiscal year 2024 grant cycle. FSCs are designed to address risk factors that may impact a family’s wellness and stability, and provide a safe and convenient location where families can receive or be referred to community-based supports and services. Attorney General Morrisey Seeks to File Brief in Court Supporting Religious Exception to Vaccines

Maple Street Assault Arrest
On May 10th, 2023 at approximately 5:00 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the teen block of Maple Street for a reported assault. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with the victim who advised that Patrick Wallizer had shoved them, and struck them with a closed fist. Officers were able to observed evidence of the assault and placed Wallizer under arrest. Wallizer was then taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released on an unsecured $1,000 bond. Arrest: Patrick Wayne Wallizer, age 42, Cumberland Maryland. Charge: Assault Second Degree.
West Industrial Boulevard Assault Arrest
On May 10th, 2023 at approximately 11:20 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 block of West Industrial Boulevard for a reported assault. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with the complainant, Christopher Bradshaw. Bradshaw alleged that individuals were blocking the roadway in the 400 block of Grand Avenue, and when he exited his vehicle to confront them, several of the individuals assaulted him. The officers continued their investigation and located witnesses, as well as an additional victim of the incident. Arrest Warrant Served
On May 10th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Amanda Elizabeth Staples. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when Staples failed to appear for her trial. Staples was taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was released on her own recognizance. Arrest: Amanda Elizabeth Staples, age 41, Cumberland Maryland 21502. Charge: Failure to Appear.
Griffon Corporation announced that its ClosetMaid plant in Grantsville will close
The Griffon Corporation has announced that its ClosetMaid plant in Grantsville is set to close sometime within the remainder of the year. The plant closing is part of a downsizing plan by the company for its US properties, part of a comprehensive plan to maximize shareholder value that began in 2022. Griffon has owned the plant since 2017 and employs 170 people locally. In addition, plants in Pennsylvania and Iowa are going to be shuttered with the shift in workforce moving to Mexico although no official date has been given for the shutdown.
