High school bands received recognition during this month’s meeting Board of Education

A banner year for area high schools bands- and they received recognition during this month’s meeting of the Allegany County Board of Education. Mountain Ridge High School received the Maryland Marching Band Association large open division state championship;  Fort Hill High School won Tournament of Bands Class 3A Championship and by virtue of their score they have been promoted to open class for next year; and Allegany High School “won Tournament of Bands Class 1 Open Championship” . Gov Justice says he is giving serious thought to running for the Senate

 West Virginia Governor Jim Justice says he is giving serious thought to running for the Senate. Republican U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney, who was elected earlier this month to his fifth term in Congress, has already thrown his hat into the ring to seek the GOP nomination to run for Democratic Sen. The close-out results of the fiscal year that ended in June, plus new revenue estimates for the current and upcoming years add up to $4 billion of good news for Maryland’s budget. In Maryland, the amount of federal stimulus’ provided in 2020 and 2021 through last July equaled 9.4% of the state’s economy. And economists say that Maryland has not yet seen the full effects of the economic stimulus- projecting that will come out over the next year or two. Fayette Street from Allegany Street to Luteman Road will be patched beginning Monday

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Belt Paving, would like to notify the public that beginning on Monday, November 28, 2022, through Wednesday, November 30, 2022, Fayette Street from Allegany Street to Luteman Road will be patched to repair the road from this summer’s water line project. The road will be flagged during construction to route vehicles around the construction equipment. Due to the weather forecast and expected daytime air temperatures, the road will not be milled and overlayed until the Spring. Detours will be set up as needed to direct traffic around the site. Cumberland Man Arrested for Threat of Mass Violence on Seymour Street

On November 23rd, 2022 at approximately 3:00 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 600 block of Industrial Boulevard for a male subject with a firearm threatening employees. The victims in this incident were able to identify the male as Devone Baskin, who officers knew to have had an active Arrest Warrant. The victims advised that Baskin had fled the area. Officers were able to locate Baskin who was still in possession of the firearm and a foot pursuit ensued. Threat of Mass Violence Arrest on Liberty Street

On November 23rd, 2022 at 9:45pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Liberty Street. The officer contacted the operator, Zachary Crawford, and advised him of the infractions observed. Crawford then attempted to pull away from the officers before stopping a short distance away. Officers began to order Crawford from the vehicle, which he refused to do. Crawford then threatened to harm the officers on scene, stated he was going to get a weapon, and began reaching into the passenger area of his vehicle.
