Greenway Avenue Stadium Fundraiser Scheduled

The Greenway Avenue Stadium Capital Improvement Fund is planning a Mini-Marathon and 1-Mile walk for Saturday April 22 at Greenway.  Money generated from the event will go to upgrades including lighting, sound system and press box improvements. The fundraiser will be dedicated this year to the memory of long-time area sports supporter Dave Christopher. Participants can choose to do the 2.62 mile mini-marathon or one mile walk/run. Also this year will be the Toddler Trot for ages 1-3 and Youngster Run for youth 4-6.  Winners will receive plaques made by the Career Center. Registration forms can be picked up at…

Fayette Street paving begins Tuesday, April 18

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Belt Paving, would like to notify the public that beginning on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, through Friday, April 21, 2023, Fayette Street from Allegany Street to Lefevre Road will be paved. The road will be flagged during construction to route vehicles around the construction site. Detours will be set up as needed to direct traffic around the site. Parking will be restricted in the areas during construction starting at 6:30am each morning and concluding at 5:00pm. I-68 Westbound Reopens Following Truck Fire

Westbound I-68 is reopening to traffic following a tractor trailer fire earlier today. The truck was near mile marker 40 and was well involved when fire units responded at 8am this morning. The interstate was shut down while the fire was brought under control. Units from Cumberland, LaVale, Cresaptown, Corriganville, Bedford Road and Allegany Special Operations responded to the incident.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

On April 13th, 2023 at approximately 1:00 am officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of East Industrial Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue for a fatal motor vehicle crash. Officers arrived on scene as well as EMS personnel and pronounced the operator deceased. The motor vehicle crash remains under investigation by Cumberland Police Department Motor Vehicle Crash Reconstructionist, but speed is believed to be a contributing factor. Constituents speaking against abortion clinic near Rawlings

Among the constituents speaking at last Thursday’s Allegany County Commissioner’s meeting was Coleton Furlow. Furlow is a native of Cumberland who now works for the Conservative Political Action Coalition in Washington DC. In speaking to the commissioners, Furlow called into question one of the statements made in an interview by the Executive Director of the incoming abortion clinic near Rawlings Katie Quinonez.    

Delegate Jason Buckel shares his thoughts about the Maryland legislative session

Delegate Jason Buckel came on the Dave Norman show Wednesday morning to talk about the Maryland legislative session that concluded on Tuesday. He had similar thoughts to Senator Mike McKay about how the session fared overall. Buckel noted that he had 7 bills passed and was in the top 3 of Republicans that got different legislation passed during the session, many co-sponsored by the Western Maryland delegation.

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin has been making the news-talk rounds and the pot is stirring about a possible run for the White House in 2024. On Sunday’s Meet The Press program, Manchin described his approach to being a US Senator for the past 13 years.
