East Industrial Boulevard fatal motor vehicle crash
The Cumberland Police Department is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash on East Industrial Boulevard. East Industrial Boulevard is currently shut down starting at Virginia Avenue and ending at South Street including side streets leading to East Industrial Boulevard. The roadway will be closed for an extended period of time and motorists are asked to avoid the area. Alternative routes to avoid the crash scene would include I-68 East Bound to Willowbrook Road to Messick Road. In City Travel would include East Bound Industrial Boulevard to Lamont Street to Oldtown Road.

DUI ARREST/CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED
On Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at approximately 7:02 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 200 block of Greene Street for a possible intoxicated driver. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the subject who was identified as Dylan Coakley. Officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Coakley’s breath and person. Police determined that Coakley had been operating a vehicle. Coakley was then placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Alexia Kubin. The summons was issued in connection with an incident that occurred on February 25, 2023 when an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Maryland Avenue. The officer conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of CDS paraphernalia and a large quantity of suspected marijuana. Maryland Avenue CDS Arrest
On Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at approximately 4:47 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Maryland Avenue. A police K-9 was utilized and alerted to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle and its occupants was conducted. As a result, the front passenger, James Welsh, was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine. Welsh was arrested and transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and posted a $1,000 unsecured personal bond. Downtown Mall CDS Arrest
On Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at approximately 2:04 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department observed Perry Hamilton Jr. walking on the Downtown Mall. The officer contacted Hamilton and began a consensual conversation. Perry admitted to the officer that he was in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. After further investigation, Hamilton was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. He was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial. On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Michael Butler. The warrant was issued as the result of Butler failing to appear in court on April 4, 2023. He was originally charged with Disorderly Conduct. Butler was arrested and later transported to Central Booking. The last day for the Maryland legislative session was Monday and Senator Mike McKay took some time to go over results for the 2023 term on the Dave Norman show.
