Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., invested nearly $10 million in 2022 to complete service reliability projects that will help enhance electric service and minimize the impact of power outages for thousands of customers in Maryland. Marilyn Mosby’s federal trial likely delayed until the fall
The perjury trial for former Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby will likely be pushed back until the fall. WBAL reports Mosby was federally indicted in January 2022 on charges of perjury and making a false statement on a loan application. The trial was scheduled for March 2023, but Mosby's defense team was allowed to withdraw. A public defender took over the case. During a Friday teleconference, the federal judge offered July jury selection dates but all sides couldn't come to an agreement. The judge planned to return with new options for September or October. Longtime business and community leader Dave Christopher has passed away. Christophers Photo Lab was a family owned business that began in 1946 and remained open until 2021 whenit closesd as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the business. The business did $2 million annually at its peak in the 1990s and employed up to 75 people as it produced photos for studios across the country. Dave was active with the business until he retired in 2008. Police make assault arrest
On Friday, February the Cumberland City Police served Kelah Monae Johnson, 24, of Cumberland MD a criminal summons. The summons was issued in reference to an incident that occurred on February 8th at a Residence in the 800 block of Mt. Royal Ave. During that incident, it is alleged that Johnson was involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical, resulting in minor injuries to a female victim. Construction on Mechanic Street set to begin Monday
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department would like to notify the public on the behalf of Columbia Gas of Maryland that between February 13th, 2023 and March 3rd, 2023 there will be construction performed on Mechanic Street, between Market Street and Frederick Street from 7AM to 5PM each day. Between these dates, this section of Mechanic Street will be reduced to a 9-foot-wide driving lane. There will be no on-street parking permitted on Mechanic Street during construction hours starting at 7AM each morning and concluding at 5PM. Md. lawmakers push to expand use of alcohol detection devices in vehicles
In Maryland, drivers who are convicted of drinking and driving are already required to get an ignition interlock device — a piece of technology that won’t allow a car to start if the driver is impaired. WTOP reports lawmakers in Annapolis are working to pass bills that would expand the requirement in cases where judges grant probation before judgment — a court action that keeps a conviction off the offender’s record but requires that they complete a period of probation.
