All Allegany County Public Schools after school and evening activities are CANCELED today, Wednesday, December 14, 2022, due to predicted inclement weather.

Cumberland Trash pick-up suspended for Thursday

Due to the closing of the landfill because of impending extreme weather conditions, City of Cumberland trash collection has been suspended for the Thursday, Lower West Side, East Side, Seton Drive, and Upper West Side Areas of the City of Cumberland. Residents in these areas will receive double trash pickup on their next regularly scheduled collection day: Monday December 19th.  Any questions may be directed to the Public Works Department at 301-759-6620 or publicworks@cumberlandmd.gov or Burgmeier's Hauling at 301-777-0416.

Governor Hogan Announces 114 Economic Development Projects For Rural Communities

Governor Larry Hogan today announced that 114 economic development projects in Maryland’s rural counties will be funded through the $50 million Rural Maryland Economic Development Fund. GoFundMe Set up for Local Law Enforcement Officer

Dave Broadwater has served his community as a law enforcement officer and a volunteer youth football coach for more than 30 years. Broadwater recently suffered a heart attack and had emergency surgery on Dec. 2. His daughter, Megan Poland, launched this GoFundMe page to help him with bills while he recovers. Frostburg man arrested for Sex Offense

On December 13th, 2022, The Cumberland City Police arrested Christopher Chau Van Pham, 20, of Frostburg MD. Pham was arrested on an outstanding Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on December 8th, 2022. The warrant was the result of an investigation conducted by the Combined County Criminal Investigations Unit. During the investigation, it was discovered that Pham had engaged in sexual activity with an underage victim. Pham was arrested and taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on $2,500…

On December 13th, 2022, The Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Brandy Alisea Walker, 35, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on October 18th, 2022. During the incident, Walker contacted the Cumberland Police to report a hit and run that had occurred with her vehicle while it was not occupied. She advised that the front end of her vehicle had been struck while parked in the area of Frederick St and that she had discovered the damage later in the day. Mobile Sports betting has already generated contributions to the state

Maryland Lottery and Gaming officials have released the numbers on how much money mobile sports betting has already generated for the state. Maryland’s first seven mobile sportsbooks held eight hours of controlled demonstration wagering on Nov. 21 and launched at 9 a.m. on Nov. 23. In nine days of operations during November, the mobile sports wagering handle was $186,084,496. That amount included $63,835,319 in free promotional play, which was provided to customers by sportsbooks. Mobile betting providers are not taxed on the money wagered through those free bets, so lottery officials say mobile betting accounted for $4,262 in contributions to…

State to begin 2023 with health fiscal picture

When Maryland lawmakers convene to open the 2023 General Assembly session next month- the state’s leaders will inherit what the senate president called “countervailing forces, both positive and negative.”  While Maryland has a historic budget surplus, the state also faces labor shortages, supply chain issues and inflation.
