Police pursuit starts in Maryland, ends in crash in Virginia

Police said a call about gunfire in Germantown had an officer on the receiving end of some of the gunfire before they started pursuing the accused shooter who ended up crashing his car in Virginia Monday morning. Montgomery County Department of Police said emergency dispatchers received calls about a man with a gun in the 113000 block of Hawks Ridge Terrace around 9:25 a.m. When officers got there, the man took off. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot tests positive for COVID-19

Maryland Comptroller and gubernatorial candidate Peter Franchot on Friday announced via Twitter that he has tested positive for COVID-19. Franchot said his symptoms are mild and that he is vaccinated and boosted. The comptroller added that he will campaign from home until he can safely return from quarantine. "Unfortunately, this evening I tested positive for COVID-19," Franchot said in a tweet. Supreme Court marshal asks Maryland officials to prohibit picketing outside justices’ homes

 Supreme Court marshal Gail Curley is asking Maryland officials to enforce state and local laws that prohibit picketing outside the homes of justices. Curley sent the requests to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Montgomery County executive Mark Erlich in letters dated July 1, citing an uptick in demonstrations since May – when the draft opinion overturning Roe v. Cumberland Man Arrested on Assault

The Cumberland Police responded to West Industrial Blvd for a report of an assault that was occurring in a vehicle.  The vehicle had pulled to the side of the road to await the Police. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female and male.  The female victim advised that she was driving home with the male as a passenger.  The two were arguing, when the male attempted to gain control of the steering wheel, nearly causing an accident.  When he was unsuccessful, the male struck her and scratched her on the legs.  Based on the victim’s statements and visible injuries observed on…

Police Make Arrest After Disturbance at Business

The Cumberland Police responded to a business on the 12000 block of West Industrial Blvd for a report of a patron that was screaming and threatening staff and customers.  The male suspect also slammed shopping carts into property of the business and then left after kicking the doors.  Officers arrived on scene and obtained a suspect description from employees and several customers that were in the store.  Based on the suspect description, James Robert Michael Langway, age 34 of Cumberland MD, was located a short distance away.  Langway was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace.  He…

Police Make CDS Arrest after Traffic Stop

On July 2, 2022 officers of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop. Officer’s identified the driver as, Joseph Allen Edmonson. Officers then observed suspected marijuana and a suspected meth pipe in plain view. Mr. Edmonson received a criminal citation and was released from the scene. Arrest: Joseph Allen Edmonson, age 57, Cumberland Maryland. Charges: Possession of drug paraphernalia.

City to Hold Annual 4th of July Events Tonight

The annual city fireworks display will take place at Constitution Park on Monday, July Fourth with a celebration featuring live music also planned for Washington Street. The mayor and City Council will sponsor the fireworks show, which will begin around 9:30 p.m. Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss said the Constitution Park Pool will be open July 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and patrons can gain access for half the usual price.
