Grantsville Woman arrested following Assault

Maryland State Police arrested a woman following an assault Thursday in Garrett County. The suspect, Sheena Marie Shiflett, 38, of Grantsville, Maryland is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and assault on a police officer. She is being held without bond at the Garrett County Detention Center. At about noon on Thursday, troopers from the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack responded to the 10300 block of National Pike in Grantsville, Maryland for a report of an assault. More than 382,000 Marylanders participate in early voting

Final figures will be known later, but state elections officials state more than 88,000 votes were cast on Thursday, the highest daily total of eight days of early voting. Around 382,000 votes were cast over the eight-day period. This year's total is more than 40% lower than the early voting total of four years ago. Officials expected the lower in-person turnout due to more people voting by mail. The early voting turnout represents more than 8% of the state's registered voters. Early voting concluded at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Election Day will take place on Nov. 8.  

UPDATE: Haz Mat incident on Interstate 68; Scene Cleared

Allegany County Emergency Services reported a hazardous material accident on Interstate 68 near Rocky Gap early Friday. Fire, Special Operations and Police responded to the scene. 

Prince George’s County lobbying for FBI headquarters

Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, along with U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, Congressman Anthony Brown, Congressman Kweisi Mfume, members of the county’s state delegation and County Council, will hold a press conference on Friday, November 4, to advocate for Prince George’s County as the selection process for the new FBI headquarters continues. Lock-In lifted at Braddock Middle School

A lock in that had been in place at Braddock Middle School this morning hsa been lifeted. No students or staff faced any danger according to a release from the school system. The lock-in status was a precautionary measure as there were reports of a disturbance originating from within the surrounding community. 

Flintstone Ladies Auxiliary under investigation for stolen money

The Cumberland Times News reports conversations about an online romance “scam,” a house fire and stolen money are part of a police investigation that led to criminal charges in Allegany County. According to documents filed in District Court for Allegany County, Patricia Leitzen, 77, was treasurer of the Flintstone Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary for 35 years. She resigned from the position in August after being questioned about missing funds. Leitzen faces misdemeanor counts of embezzlement and felony theft scheme, charges that could carry penalties of five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines. The Times reports Leitzen could not…

Two Baltimore Females Arrested for CDS

On Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 at approximately 1205 am, a Cumberland Police officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Glenn Street.  A probable cause search was conducted by the officer. Two of the vehicle occupants, Jerrell M. Muraba and Trinity M. Cruickshonk, were found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected cannabis, in an amount greater than 10 grams.  Both Muraba and Cruickshonk were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.
