Multiple People Shot In Smithsburg, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Says

Three people are potentially dead following a shooting in Smithsburg, Gov. Larry Hogan said during a news conference Thursday. "What I understand, potentially, three people dead," Hogan said. "Maryland State Police responded, pursued the suspect, the suspect fired and shot the trooper in the shoulder, who then returned fire and shot him." Superintendent Announces Administrative Staffing Updates New Principals, Assistant Principals, Supervisor of Transportation

Allegany County Public Schools’ Superintendent, Mr. Jeff Blank, has announced several administrative staffing changes for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Shannon Green will be the new principal at George’s Creek Elementary School, and Jill Hartsfield will be the new principal at West Side Elementary School. Timothy Farrell will be the assistant principal at South Penn Elementary School, Josh Cook will be the assistant principal at Westmar Middle School, and Heather Peters will be the assistant principal at Northeast Elementary School. Additionally, Homer “HB” Martz will replace Mark Morral as the Supervisor of Transportation.                     

Gov. Hogan refers audit of Baltimore City schools grade changing to state prosecutor, U.S. Attorney

Larry Hogan wants the report on the widespread grade changing in Baltimore City Schools to be investigated by the Maryland State Prosecutor and the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland. No Injuries, 21-year-old Hagerstown man arrested following Valley Mall shooting

WDVM reports a 21-year-old Hagerstown man was charged for the shooting at the Valley Mall on Wednesday evening. 21-year-old Matthew Steven Lookabaugh, was identified as the shooting suspect and charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and several appropriate gun charges relating to this incident. On June 8, around 6:30 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Valley Mall at 17301 Valley Mall Rd. for a report of shots fired. UPDATE: One Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident

One person was injured when a tractor-trailer traveled out of control and overturned on eastbound Interstate 68 at the 54-mile marker Wednesday evening, according to the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services. The Cumberland Times News reports numerous fire and rescue units, State Highway Administration, the Allegany County Hazardous Incident Response Team and state police responded to the crash that prompted the first alerts by the Allegany County 911 Center about 7:30 p.m. The injured person was taken by DES personnel manning the Flintstone ambulance to UPMC Western Maryland for treatment of unspecified injuries. One Arrested in Bond Street Assault

The Cumberland Police were called to a residence on the 200 block of Bond St for a report of an assault.  Upon arrival officers spoke with a female who had visible injuries.  The female victim advised that she had been involved in an altercation with a male, identified as Dema Tyler Smith, age 25 of Cumberland, MD.  During the altercation she was struck several times.  Based on her injuries, Smith was placed under arrest for Second Degree Assault and taken to Central Booking for his initial appearance with the District Court Commissioner and was released on an unsecured $2,500 bond. …

Early Morning Crosstown Bridge Wreck Leads to DUI Arrest

At approximately 6:00 AM on June 8th, 2022 the Cumberland Police were called to I-68 Eastbound on the Crosstown Bridge for a report of a single vehicle crash.  Upon arrival officers observed the vehicle to have heavy damage.  When the officer contacted the operator, obvious signs of impairment were observed along with the odor of an alcoholic beverage.  After completing field sobriety tests, the operator, Richard Taylor, age 67 of Keyser, WV was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence.
