No splash pad for Constitution Park

With a price tag now much higher than originally projected- the Cumberland Mayor and City Council decided this week to hold off on the idea of adding a splash pad adjacent to the Constitution Park swimming pool. A splash pad or spray pool is a recreation area for water play that has little or no standing water. The city began discussions on the concept earlier this year receiving an overview and design options from the engineering department. A celebration of life will be held for Billie Gilpin

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for longtime Allegany County Judge of Orphans Court Billie Gilpin who passed away Sunday at the age of 82. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband  Harry Gilpin. A Fort Hill High School graduate, class of 1958, Gilpin was an Allegany County Day Care Provider for 44 years. During that time, she served with the Allegany and Garrett Counties Planning Council. She was later elected to the Allegany County Orphans Court in 1994 and held that post until she  retired from that position…

Daylight saving time [DST] is coming to an end on Sunday, bringing an extra hour of sleep for millions of Americans. The ending of daylight saving time means that the sun will be out earlier in the morning and the evenings will get darker sooner. Daylight saving ends at 2 a.m. local time on Nov. 6 and resumes on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

The NFL’s Washington Commanders could soon be for sale, after owners Dan and Tanya Snyder said they have hired Bank of America Securities to “consider potential transactions.” The team announced the surprising decision Wednesday to enlist the investment bank's services. Two car accident near Grand Avenue

Cumberland units responded to a two vehicle accident on Oldtown Road at Grand Avenue just before 1o Wednesday morning. No injuries reported but that section of Oldtown Road was closed as the scene was cleared.

Hagerstown Man killed in Wednesday morning accident

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning in Washington County. At about 7 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the area of Sharpsburg Pike and Taylors Landing Road in Hagerstown, Maryland.  According to an initial investigation, a 2011 Suzuki M109 R motorcycle was traveling south on Sharpsburg Pike in the area of Taylors Landing Road. Allegany County Early vote numbers solid

It is day seven of Maryland's eight-day early voting period ahead of next Tuesday's election. State elections officials say more than 45,000 people voted on Monday, bringing the five-day total for early voting to more than 186,000. Thus far, the total is about half of the nearly 370,000 who voted in the first five days of early voting in 2018. Elections officials said fewer people are voting in person in early voting as more people vote by mail. Cumberland Woman charged with child neglect arrested

On November 1st, 2022, The Cumberland City Police arrested Shelly Marie Davis, 31, of Frostburg MD. Davis was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County Circuit Court on October 28th, 2022. The warrant alleged that Davis failed to appear in Circuit Court on that date for charges of neglect of a minor. Davis was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center.
