Concern for Parking spaces and Restrictions raised during Thursdays DDC meeting

Van Hollen Meets Ukrainian Soldier Receiving Treatment at Medical Center in Silver Spring

Tuesday, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) met with Ukrainian soldier Oleksandr Chaika, who is receiving care at the Medical Center Orthotics and Prosthetics (MCOP) in Silver Spring. Oleksandr, a Ukrainian athlete, choreographer, acrobatics coach, and teacher joined the Ukrainian military shortly after Putin announced his war on Ukraine. Oleksandr was deployed to the Luhansk region where he lost his leg to an explosive. With assistance from Senator Van Hollen’s office to arrive in the United States, Oleksandr has now received a prosthetic leg as part of MCOP’s Operation Renew to serve Ukrainian military personnel. Comptroller Extends Tax Deadlines for Fiona and Ian Victims

In the wake of destructive impacts from Hurricanes Fiona and Ian, Comptroller Peter Franchot today announced that his office will be following Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines to extend filing and payment deadlines for various Maryland non-resident individual and business tax returns until February 15, 2023. Rutherford To Oversee Gubernatorial Transition

Governor Larry Hogan today announced that he has named Lt. Governor Boyd K. Shooting in Frostburg investigation continues

A man shot early Saturday on Bowery Street in what police are describing as an isolated incident remained hospitalized Wednesday, and the shooter was still at large. Frostburg City Police Chief Nick Costello said the 19-year-old was shot in the abdomen and taken to UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, where he was in stable condition. The shooting occurred at 12:38 a.m. at 70 Bowery. “Police believe this was an isolated incident, specifically directed at the victim, and not a random act of violence,” Costello said via news release. Criminal Summons Served

On October 12th, 2022 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Patricia Sisler. The Criminal Summons was issued by the District Court stemming from multiple disturbance incidents on October 6th, 2022. During the incidents officers responded to the 900 block of Grand Avenue multiple times for Sisler creating a disturbance. An application for charges was completed on Sisler and this Criminal Summons was issued. Sisler signed for her Criminal Summons and was released pending her trial at District Court. Arrest Warrant Served

On October 12th, 2022 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Dakota Getz. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when Getz failed to comply with the conditions of his release. Getz was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released on his own recognizance. Arrest: Dakota McKenzie Getz, age 25, Cumberland Maryland. Charge: Failure to Comply.

School Board approves $4.6 million to replace Fort Hill Boilers

The Allegany County Board of Education this week signed off on a $4.6 million project that will replace three boilers at Fort Hill High School as well as upgrade the heating and air conditioning system in the gymnasium wing of the building. There are a number of funding sources that will cover the cost of the project including $1.3 million which will come from the board’s reserve fund.
