Maryland governor to testify at former aide’s trial

WBAL reports Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan will be called as a witness in the federal fraud trial of his former chief of staff, Roy McGrath, a rarity for a sitting governor. The Daily Record reports that the disclosure is part of a joint filing of proposed questions for prospective jurors. Michael Ricci, a Hogan spokesman, referred questions about the trial to prosecutors. “Over the last two years, our office has been actively assisting in these ongoing investigations,” Ricci said, adding that the governor’s office is “confident that the justice system will uphold the public trust.” McGrath faces an eight-count federal indictment. Hogan Announces Maryland Exceeds Energy Efficiency Targets For State-Owned Facilities

In honor of National Energy Efficiency Day, Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the State of Maryland has reached and exceeded its goals for reducing energy use in state-owned facilities years ahead of schedule. Cox questions validity of new poll showing him down by 32%

Maryland Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wes Moore holds a 32-percentage-point lead over Republican opponent Dan Cox in the governor’s race on Nov. 8, according to a University of Maryland-Washington Post poll. The poll’s results follow the Goucher College Poll, released on Sept. 19, in which 53% of Marylanders polled said they would vote for Moore and 31% percent for Cox. The University of Maryland poll sampled 810 registered voters in Maryland by phone from Sept. 22–27. ACM to Host Transfer Fair

Allegany College of Maryland will host an in-person Fall Transfer Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 13 in its College Center Lobby. Representatives from more than 30 four-year colleges and universities in the mid-Atlantic are expected to attend. The 54th Annual Tri-State College Night to be held Tuesday

On Tuesday, October 11, Allegany College of Maryland will host the 54th Annual Tri-State College Night from 6:30-8 p.m. in the gymnasium. Assault Arrests

On October 3rd, at approximately 11:26 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon officers arrival they observed evidence of an assault and spoke with the victim. The victim advised that Kristie Dawson had thrown an object at them and struck them in the face causing injuries. Dawson was placed under arrest and taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was held without bond. Arrest: Kristie Lynn Dawson, age 36, Cumberland Maryland. DUI Arrest

On October 4th, 2022 an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted patrol in the area of Queen City Drive and Harrison Street when they observed a traffic violation. The officer conducted a traffic stop and contacted the operator, Brian Hirsch, and observed evidence of impairment. After performing standardized field sobriety tests the officer observed further evidence of impairment. Hirsch was placed under arrest and later released on DUI related citations. Union Mission secures funding to relocate to North Centre Street

Despite plenty of objections and emotions running high at times for around two hours-  the Cumberland Mayor and City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve more than $700,000 in funding to the Union Rescue Mission allowing it to relocate to North Centre Street. Justice urges older West Virginians to get the Omicron booster

While many of West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s regular COVID briefings have centered on other topics in recent months ranging from abortion, to tax cuts to school safety- this week the governor focused primarily on the pandemic.
