Times-News Announces Price Increase

In a letter to subscribers, the Cumberand Times News has announced an increase in the price of subscriptions. Starting June 1, the the Total Access tier will increase to $26.15 per month.    That features five days of delivery and seven days of digital access.   Other levels of subscription have also been raised in price. The letter attributed the need for the increas to the rising cost of transportation, newsprint and ink.

Constitution Park Day Camp Planned

The 2022 City of Cumberland Parks & Recreation Department Constitution Park Day Camp is opening on Monday June 20 and will continue six weeks through August 12. This program is offered through the services of the Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department, U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, Maryland State Department of Education and Allegany County Department of Social Services. Day camp will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday each week. Extended hours (starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.) are offered for an additional $10 per week, per child. Maryland Public Service Commissioner Announces Retirement

Commissioner Mindy L. Herman, who has been a member of the Maryland Public Service Commission for nearly five years, has announced that she will retire as of May 4, 2022. First appointed to the regulatory agency by Governor Larry Hogan in 2017 to fill out the unexpired, five-year term of Commissioner Jeannette Mills, Commissioner Herman was reappointed in 2019.   Governor Hogan has appointed Patrice M. ‘Patty’ Bubar to the Commission to round out the five-member panel. Her first day at the Commission will be May 18, 2022. WV Sets All Time Monthly Surplus Record

Gov. Jim Justice announced today that West Virginia’s General Revenue collections for April 2022 came in at $253 million over estimate, the all-time state record surplus for any single month in West Virginia history. “This is one of the most momentous economic announcements in the history of our state,” Gov. Justice Signs WV Special Session Bills

Gov. Jim Justice has signed a total of 15 bills that were passed during the recent special legislative session, called by Gov. Justice. Among the bills signed was HB 217, a supplemental appropriation for $250 million to the Economic Enhancement Grant Fund which is managed by the West Virginia Water Development Authority. Working together with the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council and the West Virginia Department of Economic Development, the fund will provide matching grants to municipalities for use in upgrading infrastructure such as water and sewer systems. “This bill is going to allow us to take a huge step…

Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today issued the following statement: “The draft opinion of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v.
