Discovery of Brass Knuckles Leads to Additional Charges
On Saturday, April 30, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Logan Aldrich on a bench warrant. The warrant was issued as a result of Aldrich failing to appear for his court case at the District Court of Allegany County. Aldrich was originally charged with Theft less than $100. Officers searched Aldrich incident to arrest and located metal knuckles (brass knuckles) in his backpack. He was transported to Central Booking at the Allegany County Detention Center. City Woman Held on Failure to Comply Warrants
On Friday, April 29, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Belen Marie Waybright on three District Court bench warrants. The warrants were issued as a result of Waybright failing to comply with court orders on three separate cases. Waybright was originally charged with numerous CDS offenses and Trespassing. Officer searched Waybright incident to arrest and located controlled CDS paraphernalia in her purse. She was taken before a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 29, 2022, there are currently 882 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There has been one death reported since the last report, with a total of 6,856 deaths attributed to COVID-19. Locust Grove House Fire Reported
Allegany County 911 dispatched fire and EMS units to a house fire on Wabash Street in Locust Grove Saturday afternoon. The call came in during the noon hour, according to dispatchers.
Units Respond to Vehicle Rollover
The Joint Communications Center of Allegany County dispatched units to westbound Interstate 68 for a vehicle rollover Saturday morning. The initial call came in at around 10:30 AM, and police, fire and EMS responded to the scene. The incident happened around the 32 mile marker and did not involve a shutdown of the highway.

Early morning accident at Lee and Paca streets
On at approximately 2:30 AM Saturday, the Cumberland Police Department and the Cumberland Fire Department responded to Lee Street at Paca Street for a single vehicle M/V crash into a utility pole. The pole was sheared off and was blocking a lane of travel. Lee Street was shut down and is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time. Repair crews are on the scene. Motorists are urged to find an alternate route.
COVID Case Rate remains low in Allegany County
As COVID-19 cases in Maryland continue to edge upward, Allegany County’s case rate remained low this week, and is currently 5.88 people per 100,000 people. The CDC COVID Community Level for Maryland is still classified as low. The health department continues to offer COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters to the public each Wednesday.
