Maryland State Police Troopers prepared for potential trucker convoy

Maryland State Police said troopers are prepared for potential protests planned by truck drivers later in the week. State police said in a statement released Monday that the department is aware of potential protests planned by truck drivers in and around the nation's capital region. State police said they are working with federal, state and local agencies to monitor developments. Pennsylvania troopers chase suspected stolen car into Maryland

Troopers chased a car from York County into Maryland, where it ended in a crash, Pennsylvania State Police said. Police said the vehicle was reported stolen out of York City, Pennsylvania. The car was spotted Monday morning near Loganville, Pennsylvania, and the driver took off when a trooper tried to pull the car over, police said. The driver was injured and taken to a hospital, police said.

DelFest Lineup Growing

Tyler Childers has been added to the lineup for the 14th annual DelFest, scheduled for May 26-29 at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. The Cumberland Times News reports Childers will be joined on stage by the Travelin’ McCourys. In addition, festival organizers said Robert Earl Keene and The Jerry Douglas Band will perform at the Memorial Day weekend event. The festival, named for bluegrass artist Del McCoury, features more than 30 acts from the bluegrass, country and Americana musical genres. The event hasn’t been held since 2019 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Justice announces over $8.3 million in Transportation and Recreational Trails grants

Gov. Jim Justice today announced the approval of over $8.3 million in Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Program grants for 29 improvement projects in 21 counties across West Virginia. These grants help towns and cities improve their network of recreational trails, biking/walking paths, sidewalks, and more, by either building from scratch or enhancing what they already have through various types of projects. Three Escape Early Morning House fire on Grand Avenue

Occupants of a residence in the 100 block of Grand Avenue safely escaped a fire early Monday after they were awakened by responding Cumberland firefighters. According to Chief  Shannon Adams units responded to the scene and helped everyone  out safely with no issue. The fire  was reported to the Allegany County 911 emergency center at 6:44 a.m. At least three occupants and numerous dogs were rescued by city firefighters from the two-story brick and frame dwelling located at 126 Grand Ave. The chief said the cause of the blaze was being investigated but there were no indications that it was…

Police Serve Bench Warrants

On Sunday, February 20, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department served a Circuit Court bench warrant (original charge of Disorderly Conduct) and a District Court bench warrant (original charge of Theft less than $100 and Con-Theft less than $100) on Anthony Michael Vassallo.  The warrants were issued as a result of Vassallo failing to appear for his court cases.  Vassallo was released on his personal recognizance for the District Court warrant.  He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held without bond for the Circuit Court warrant.
