1:10 PM UPDATE – US 220 has been reopened The Joint Communications Center of Allegany County dispatched police, ifre and EMS to the scene of a reported head on collision on McMullen Highway The mishap occurred near the intersection of Dan Reed Road just before noon.
Police Serve Summonses
On Sunday, November 7th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Karlee Jo Bentham charging her with theft. The summons was issued in reference to a complaint filed that Bentham stole prescription medication from a E. Mary Street residence back on October 18th, 2021. She was later interview by an officer and admitted to the theft. Bentham signed and received copies of the charging documents and was released pending trial at District Court. Police Make Gun Arrest After Traffic Stop
On Sunday, November 7th, 2021 a Cumberland Officer on patrol stopped a vehicle in the Oldtown Road area for an equipment violation. The officer contacted the driver who was identified as Joseph Eugene Hyser, who told the officer about having handgun in the vehicle. Hyser was removed from the vehicle and the officer secured the firearm, which was loaded until further information could be obtained. The officer eventually determined that Hyser did not have the proper permit for transporting a loaded handgun in Maryland. He was arrested and charged with having a loaded handgun in a vehicle. Goucher Poll Details Possible MD Governor Race Results
The latest Goucher College poll finds the most competitive race for Maryland governor would be between a "moderate" Democrat and a Republican "like Larry Hogan". The hypothetical matchup would find the Republican defeating the Democrat 49% to 44%, which is just outside the poll's margin of error. The poll does not name individual candidates. MD Sports Wagering Delayed by Commission
The state’s Sports Wagering Applicant Review Commission delayed a vote to award sports betting licenses to five Maryland casinos last week, despite the governor urging the commission to proceed more quickly. Members of the commission met for more than two hours in closed session, then said in open session that they needed to continue gathering information before making decisions on the five sports betting licenses. The commission requested each sports wagering facility applicant to submit supplemental ownership information. The closed session included legal advice from the Maryland Attorney General’s office. With Christmas fast approaching, the popular Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Polar Express excursions are expected to begin in December. Holiday themed trains and family-friendly excursions have been the focal point of the tourist trains new executive director Wes Heinz. Congressman David Trone (MD-06) invited President Biden to sign the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in Cumberland, Maryland, located in Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District. Man Held After Alleged Medication Theft
On Saturday, Cumberland Police responded to an E. Second Street residence for the report of a breaking and entering in progress. The caller stated that Arthur Tejeno Bunbasi Jr, was inside of her house when she got home. When officers arrived in the area, Bunbasi was immediately located and detained. Officers talked with the female caller who advised when she entered her residence, she was confronted by Bunbasi and assaulted. Bunbasi then took some of her medication before fleeing. A search of Bunbasi’s was conducted and the victim’s medication was located on him. He was arrested and charged with assault,…
