Three Arrested In Mountain Lake Park Drug & Squatting Raids

On August 7, 2025, Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, Detectives with the Narcotics Task Force, and Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies executed 3 search and seizure warrants at apartments located along the 800 block of Philadelphia Avenue, Mountain Lake Park. The investigation revealed that individuals had been “squatting” on the property and in the apartments, as well as utilizing the apartments as a place to store, use, and distribute controlled dangerous substances.  As a result of the search warrant, quantities of Methamphetamine, and Fentanyl were located. Mechanic Street Lane Shift

Mechanic Street lane shift will be in effect between Frederick Street and Baltimore Street. This will begin on Friday, 8/8/25, and be in effect until further notice. Two-way traffic will remain in place but Traffic Control Devices will guide motorists through the area. Please be aware, slow down, and obey all Traffic Devices and Personnel working in the area. The traffic pattern adjustment will allow the contractor to perform critical underground infrastructure repairs.      

Greene Street Theft Arrest

On Thursday, August 7, 2025 at approximately 10:37 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 200 block of Greene Street for a theft complaint.  Police contacted the staff who reported that the suspect had shoplifted from the store.  Officers located and identified the suspect as Katelin Moorehead.  Moorehead was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.  She was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial.   ARRESTED:  Katelin Marie Moorehead             AGE:  31              Cumberland, MD CHARGES:  Theft less than $100

Museum Announces Closure

One of the area’s newest history museums has decided to close its doors. County Set to Submit Appeal for Flood Relief Funds Next Week

Allegany County is close to completing the appeal process regarding FEMA’s denial of flood relief funds, according to County Administrator Jason Bennett.  During Thursday night’s County Commissioner meeting, Bennett said the County has been assisted by the state, with the help of the Maryland Department of Emergency Management, through the appeal process and the final submission should occur soon… “That appeal, we believe, will be submitted next week.  We do know, so far, FEMA has validated more expenses for us to count toward our total.  We were at $15.8 million, we’re gonna be well in excess of that now.  So, hopefully that…

Coney Ready To Welcome Back Ambulance Services

It’s been a long time coming, but the town of Lonaconing will once again have a staffed 24-hour ambulance service. When the all-volunteer Georges Creek service stopped running due to lack of volunteers, Allegany County agreed to take over the service. Two Troopers Shot in Pennsylvania

According to Pennsylvania State Police, two troopers were shot along Route 171, five miles north of the borough of Thompson in Susquehanna County.  The troopers have been hospitalized for treatment of their injuries.  No word has been released on the suspect in the case.
