Friday Accident near Country Club Mall Proves Fatal

On October 8, 2021 approximately 1:37 PM, Troopers from the Cumberland Barrack responded to a two vehicle collision on Winchester Road at the entrance to the Country Club Mall. It was discovered that a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Georgia Woods of Cumberland Maryland was traveling southbound on Winchester Road and attempted to make a left-hand turn into Country Club Mall. NBCI inmate stabbed in head

 An inmate of the North Branch Correctional Institution reportedly suffered a stab wound to the head Sunday evening, according to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The 32-year-old victim's injuries were not life-threatening, said Mark Vernarelli, a spokesman for the agency. The inmate was taken to UPMC Western Maryland by a Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department ambulance. The stabbing at the maximum-security state prison on U.S. Route 220 at Cresaptown occurred during an altercation in the victim's cell, Vernarelli said.  The victim's cellmate was being questioned in the investigation by DPSCS detectives and NBCI officials. Oakland Woman, Juvenile Killed in Accident

The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office reports an Oakland woman and a juvenile were killed early Sunday afternoon when a passenger vehicle collided with a pickup truck on Bethlehem Road. Police said Kelli Nicole Kreuger and the youth died at the scene of the 12:43 p.m. crash. The Cumberland Times News reports two youths in the passenger vehicle, a Nissan Versa, were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, for treatment of their injuries. County Signs 5 Year Lease with Medical Cannabis Company

The Allegany County Commissioners have signed a five-year lease agreement with a  medical cannabis processing company expected to locate in the North Branch Industrial Park in Mexico Farms. The agreement, approved during the regular county meeting, is with Abdo Development, who will be subleasing the space to the medical cannabis processing company, Bouquet Labs. Bouquet Labs was recently granted a license by the Maryland Cannabis Commission. The hope is that this venture will lead to up to 20 jobs for the area. Hogan Announces Budget Framework

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has announced a budget framework for how he proposes to use the state’s $2.5 billion surplus, which was announced earlier this month. The five-point plan includes boosting the state’s rainy-day fund, tax relief for retirees, tax relief for other Marylanders, help for underserved people and “enhancement” for state employees — likely in the form of compensation. Hogan’s plan didn’t include specifics on many of the points, which he called “broad outlines.”

Shade Frustrated with Misleading Info on Vaccination

Allegany County Commissioners President Jake Shade says that he is frustrated by misleading and inaccurate information being disseminated regarding COVID-19- and he feels it is serving as a deterent- and keeping some people from getting vaccinated.  The commissioners have routinely been urged the public to follow all of the COVID safety protocols when possible- but the county officials have stopped short of imposing any mandates. Arrest Made in Humbird Street Assault

On Saturday, Cumberland Police served a criminal summons on Chad Lee Butler.  The summons was issued by District Court in reference to an incident that occurred October 1st, 2021 when he is alleged to have forcefully entered a female victim’s residence located on Humbird Street; assaulted her, and damaged some of her property.  Butler was charged with assault, burglary, malicious destruction of property, and disturbing the peace.  He signed and received copies of the charging documents and was released pending trial at District Court.   Chad Lee Butler, age; 29, Cumberland, Maryland

Cumberland Man Arrested for Failing to Appear for Trial

On Saturday, Cumberland Police served a District Court bench warrant on McClave Cleland Combs III.  The warrant was issued for failing to appear for trial on October 7th, 2021 for driving without a license and driving on a suspended license.  Combs was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held on a $2,000 bond.   McClave Cleland Combs III, age; 39, Cumberland, Maryland.
