City Police Investigating Hit-and-Run Incident
The Cumberland Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance with a hit and run investigation. On the early morning hours of June 6th, 2021, a witness reported seeing a white-in-color truck pulling a silver-in-color tanker strike an electrical pole in the area of Front Street and leave the scene heading South on Queen City Drive. Officers responded to the area and observed significant damage to the pole and sidewalk on Front Street. WV Legislature Opens Special Session to Redirect Relief Funds to Road Repairs
A special session of the West Virginia Legislature aimed at allocating federal COVID-19 relief funding and increasing funds for road improvements is set for Monday. Governor Jim Justice made the announcement during his regular COVID-19 briefing- saying the session will begin at noon. Lawmakers were already scheduled to be in Charleston for June committee meetings. The legislature will consider allocating federal relief funds to the Department of Health and Human Resources and the Department of Education. Although thousands of people swarmed the downtown Cumberland area on Memorial Day to enjoy the Del McCoury Band concert at Canal Place, many businesses chose not to take advantage. The Cumberland Mayor and City Council voted last week to officially accept nearly $20 million in federal funds- the city’s share from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Oldtown Man Jailed for Missing Trial
On Saturday, June 5th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department served a District Court bench warrant on David Richard McMillan for failing to appear for trial on May 14th, 2021 for assault, malicious destruction of property, and disorderly conduct charges. City Woman Charged After Park Street Disturbance
On Saturday, June 5th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Park Street business for the report of a female that was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the property. When officers arrived, they spoke with management who advised that they asked a female several times to leave the property after other complaints from customers. Officers contacted the female who was identified as Katelin M. Moorehead and advised her that she need to leave at the request of the store management.
