West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich led a 20-state coalition in arguing against the Biden administration’s proposed regulation of firearm parts. Several midshipmen have been kicked out of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, after an investigation found they cheated on an online exam late last year. The Navy’s top officer-training school announced Friday a total of 18 midshipmen had “separated from the Naval Academy” as a result of the investigation that included NCIS. “Character development is an ongoing process and midshipmen must make the choice to live honorably each day and earn the trust that comes with a commission in the Navy or Marine Corps,” said Superintendent Vice Adm. On August 20th officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Belen Marie Waybright. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when Waybright failed to appear for her trial on August 19th, 2021. Once Waybright was placed under arrest officers located controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. Waybright was issued a Criminal Citation for possession of paraphernalia and taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was held on a $2,000 bond. At approximately  2:54pm Friday deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division and Cumberland City Police attempted to serve a felony Baltimore City warrant on Calvin V. Evans at 119 Independence Street, Cumberland, Allegany County. When officers and deputies approached the residence Evans fled into the house and refused to surrender. With the assistance of the Allegany/Garrett Crisis Negotiation Team, Evans surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. Maryland's latest COVID-19 surge continues to gain steam.  The state is reporting its biggest one-day total of new cases in more than four months today, 1,206 new cases. WBAL reports it is the third day in a row with more than a 1,000 new cases and the biggest one-day total since April 17. The positivity rate remains above 5% at 5.06% and the number of deaths in Maryland since the pandemic started has moved above 9,700 today.  To date, 3,748,760 Marylanders have received their first COVID-19 vaccine shot, 3,377,986 have received their second shot and 280,428 Marylanders have received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.  On Aug. 17, Gov. COVID-19 cases continue to grow in Allegany County while vaccination rates remain low. The case rate in the county is now nearly double the statewide average. As of August 19, 41.7% of Allegany County residents were fully vaccinated against COVID-19, compared to 60.1% of all Marylanders.  Health officials continue to urge unvaccinated members of the public to get their vaccine as soon as possible. These vaccines are safe and effective at preventing hospitalizations and death from COVID-19. DelFest 2021 is scheduled for September 23rd through the 26th at the Allegany County Fairgrounds- however with COVID-19 numbers on the rise- details are still being finalized.
