Cumberland Man Arrested on Burglary, Assault Charges
On Friday officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Joshua Michael Clark Sr. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court stemming from an incident on September 28th, 2020. During the incident officers responded to the 300 block of Williams Street for a reported breaking and entering. Officers spoke with the victim who advised that Clark had entered their residence, broke items, and struck them in the face before fleeing. Weekly COVID-19 Update: For the week of September 10-16, 2021, Fort Hill High School met the Maryland Department of Health definition of a school wide outbreak of COVID-19. There were three or more classrooms/cohorts having at least two or more positive cases within a 2-week period. ACPS had one school with classrooms/cohorts that met the definition of a classroom/cohort outbreak due to two or more individuals in the classroom/cohort testing positive for COVID-19. State Flags to Fly at Half-Staff to Remember 10K COVID Deaths
Governor Larry Hogan announced Thursday more than 10,000 Marylanders have died from COVID-19 and that state flags will fly at half-staff in remembrance. As of Thursday, there are 804 Marylanders currently hospitalized, and 1,330 new cases confirmed. The seven-day positivity rate is at 4.46%. The numbers are far worse in Allegany County which leads the state in COVID case rate. Despite those somber statistics, Maryland has reported more than 3.8 million residents now fully vaccinated. Congressman Says Removal of Confederate Monument Will Cause Further Division
A Confederate monument is set to be moved from a courthouse lawn on Maryland’s Eastern Shore after local officials voted this week to relocate it to a Virginia battleground. The Talbot County Council voted 3-2 to approve a resolution to move the “Talbot Boys” statue that commemorates more than 80 soldiers who fought for the Confederacy. For years, local activists have fought for the removal of the Jim Crow-era statue on the lawn adjacent to a former slave market site in Easton. Joe George Selected to Fill Vacant Council Seat
The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland have announced that Joseph George has been selected to fill the council seat vacated recently by Seth Bernard. The selection was made by the remaining four members of Council after interviewing all ten individuals who submitted letters of interest for the position. George retired from CBIZ Insurance Services in October of 2016. Hogan Points to Mayor as Murders Surpass 300 in Baltimore
With Baltimore City once again surpassing 300 murders- Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is speaking out again about the growing violence in the state’s largest city.
