Trooper 3 Helps Locate Suspect in Crash

Maryland State Police Aviation Command assisted West Virginia State Police in the search of two suspects that fled the scene of a crash involving a West Virginia State Trooper on Wednesday. Trooper 3 was requested out of Frederick to assist in searching the area for a suspect. He was located by Trooper 3 on Edsel Avenue in Martinsburg where he was taken into custody.

Former Business Owner Passes

Longtime Pharmacy owner Guy Dowling passed away in Berlin, Maryland on July 11th. He was 80 years old.  Dowling was the pharmacist-owner of Hank’s Pharmacy on Industrial Boulevard for over forty years. He received his degree in Pharmacy in 1969 from the University of Maryland Pharmacy School. Visitation will be August 8 at Eastern Shore Cremation and Funeral Service in Berlin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Berlin.

FSU Athletic Director Resigns

Frostburg State University Director of Athletics Troy Dell has announced his resignation and move to the same position at Gettysburg College (Pa.), his alma mater. Dell will continue to assist the University through a transition period. His last day will be August 12.   Dell has served as FSU’s director of athletics since 2007. Warrants Served

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served two bench warrants on Daniel Sweitzer for failing to comply with the terms of his probation.  Sweitzer was located and placed under arrest. A search of his person yielded a controlled dangerous substance and accompanying paraphernalia. Additional on-view charges were completed for Sweitzer.  He was then transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he was held without bond pending his initial appearance at the District Court. Mechanic Street Assault, Intoxicated Disturbance Arrest

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 100 Block of North Mechanic Street for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers met with Angela Comer, who at that time was intoxicated and was creating a disturbance. Upon conducting the investigation, it was learned that Comer had assaulted another male, leading to the disturbance. Angela continued creating a disturbance in the presence of Officers while being advised not to.
