Police Respond to Breaking-and-Entering of Vacant Property
On Friday, August 6th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded to a vacant residence on Lennox Place for the report of individuals inside that are not supposed to be there. When officers arrived, they observed the rear door had been forced open. Officers made entry and found a male, identified as Cory Jacob Bennett, hiding upstairs. Bennett was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property and 4th degree burglary. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was released on his own personal recognizance pending trial. Cory Jacob Bennett, age; 32, Cumberland, Maryland.
City Man Charged with Public Intoxication, Making False Statements
On Thursday, August 5th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Robert Christopher Cain charging him with littering and identity fraud to avoid prosecution. The summons was issued by District Court in reference to an incident that occurred on August 4th, 2021 in the area of Canal Street when an officer issued him a citation for public consumption of alcohol and later discovered that Cain had given him a fictious name. US Wind to Invest in Maryland Turbines
US Wind company has announced it will bring about 500 jobs to Maryland with a $75 million investment plan. Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Jeff Blank, announced several administrative staffing updates effective August 4, 2021. Moriah Cohen will be the new Assistant Principal at Braddock Middle School; Alyssa Werner and John Wade will be the new Assistant Principals at Washington Middle School; and Amy Llewellyn will be the Mental Health Coordinator for the school system. Road Work on Queen City Drive next week could delay traffic
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Columbia Gas of Maryland, has announced that on Tuesday, August 10 beginning at 6:00 am, a detour route will be in place to permit Queen City Drive to be closed from Baltimore Street to the Rose’s Parking Lot Entrance at the McDonald’s Restaurant. The closure is necessary to allow Columbia Gas to excavate pits in order to bore a new gas main underneath the CSX Tracks. Baltimore Reinstates Indoor Mask Mandate
The indoor mask mandate will be reinstated in Baltimore City next week, Mayor Brandon Scott announced Thursday. The mandate goes into effect at 9 a.m. Monday. The mask mandate is universal, applying to anyone regardless of vaccination status.
