A draft copy of the ACPS 2021-2022 Reopening Plan is available for stakeholder review and input on the ACPS website under the Parent Resources section. All Maryland school districts are required to update plans for the coming year and post the updated plans prior to the start of the school year. Stakeholders may provide input on the plan at ASK ACPS or by emailing Mia Cross, Public Information Officer, at mia.cross@acpsmd.org. All input should be provided by Monday, August 16, 2021. Man Killed During Pearl Harbor Attack Laid To Rest in Thomas WV
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that Navy Patternmaker 1st Class Stanislaw F. Drwall, 25, of Thomas, West Virginia, killed during World War II, was accounted for on March 25, 2021. On Dec. 7, 1941, Drwall was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Drwall. Coast Guard searches for missing teenage swimmer in Ocean City
WBAL reports the U.S. Coast Guard in Ocean City confirmed they are searching for a missing swimmer. The Coast Guard 5th District confirmed the 17-year-old boy went missing around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 112 street on the ocean side of Ocean City. The Coast Guard said a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter out of Atlantic City along with a number of search boats have been deployed, as well as resources from Maryland Natural Resources Police and the Ocean City Beach Patrol are assisting in the search.
City Resident Allegedly Assaulted by Log-Wielding Man
On August 4th, 2021, The Cumberland City Police Department responded to the area of Elizabeth St and the C&O Canal for the report of an assault. Once on scene, Officers and EMS located a male victim with multiple facial injuries. It was learned that the victim was working on the property when they came upon a makeshift shelter. The victim then contacted a male subject inside the shelter and a confrontation ensued. The suspect then allegedly attacked the victim and began to strike him with a log. City Man Charged with Assault, Weapons Violations
On August 4th, 2021, The Cumberland City Police responded to a business in the 400 block of Henderson Ave for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers located multiple subjects with physical injuries, some of which required medical attention. Victims of the assault advised that a male subject inside the establishment was seen “showing off” a handgun to others inside. The male was then ordered to leave the business by employees. Overnight Structure Fire in McCoole
Multiple units responded to a shed fire in McCoole overnight at 21st Bridge Road Southwest. The call came in at about 1:30 a.m. The structure was completely destroyed. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Citizen Task Force Presents Skate Park Proposal Overview
A citizen task force hoping to see a skate park facility constructed in Cumberland presented a lengthy overview of the proposal including possible locations; costs and planning and design.The skate park advocates recently presented city officials a petition with the signatures of more than 2,150 people who support the concept. The advocates have been consulting with Spohn Ranch, a skate park design firm based in California. Jenkins said concrete work costs about $45 per square foot.
