Frostburg Man Charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident

On Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Alex Anthony Chermesino for leaving the scene of an accident charges.  The summons was issued by District Court in reference to an incident that occurred on May 2nd, 2021 when he is suspected of backing his vehicle into a building on Willowbrook Road and leaving the scene without reporting the incident to police.  Chermesino signed and received copies of the charging documents and was released pending trial at District Court.   Alex Anthony Chermesino, age; 20, Frostburg, Maryland.  

Anonymous group of winners claims Coney Powerball prize

The Cumberland Times News reports that the  great mystery of Coney Market's multi-million Powerball winner has finally been solved, but the general public will still never know who claimed the largest prize in Maryland Lottery history. A group of anonymous winners, calling themselves simply "The Power Pack" have reportedly claimed the $731.1 million prize, according to state lottery officials, who announced that the award had been claimed Wednesday afternoon. 11 New COVID Cases, One Additional Death reported in Allegany County

In Allegany County, 24,658 residents have received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine against COVID-19 (35.0% of the population), with 21,253 of those individuals now fully vaccinated with their second dose (30.2% of the population).  The number of residents who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine is 2,548 (3.6%).   By comparison, the state reported that 52.3% of all Marylanders had received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine, with 42.7% having had both doses and 3.8% vaccinated with the single-dose vaccine.   Allegany County COVID-19 Case Statistics as of May 25:   New COVID Cases: …

Former WV Lawmaker Pleads Not Guilty to Charges Connected to US Capitol Riot

Former West Virginia House Delegate Derrick Evans has pleaded not guilty to charges related to his participation in the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot.  The four counts against Evans include entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building. COVID Numbers Continue Rapid Decline in Maryland

Maryland has reached a new record low regarding its COVID-19 numbers. On Tuesday, the state health department recorded a 1.98% seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate, the lowest positivity rate since the global pandemic began. Maryland is also reporting 160 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, the first time fewer than 200 new cases have been reported since March 30, 2020, and the lowest number since March 26, 2020. According to official CDC data, 68.3% of Maryland adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, outpacing the national rate (61.5%), and putting the state well on track to surpass President Biden’s goal…

Allegany County to Receive $1.4 Million Share of State Revitalization Awards

Governor Larry Hogan Tuesday announced nearly $17 million in awards for four state revitalization programs and one federal community development program administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).  Of that amount more than $1.4 million is targeted for local projects in Allegany County and the city of Cumberland. The Strategic Demolition Fund will provide $250,000 for a main sprinkler tap installation that will be part of the Baltimore Street reconstruction project. Justice Considering an Additional Vaccination Incentive Program

COVID-19 vaccination efforts again took center stage during West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s virtual briefing Tuesday. The governor again suggested that those who have died of COVID or are currently hospitalized would’ve jumped at the chance to be vaccinated if given the chance…   With 57% of the state’s eligible population having currently gotten at least one shot, Gov.
