Cumberland Christmas Tree Lighting Draws Crowd
A year after having to do a virtual version- the city of Cumberland’s holiday tree lighting ceremony returned live Friday evening on the downtown mall. Despite frigid temperatures a large crowd was on hand for the festivities with Mayor Ray Morriss serving as Master of Ceremonies. Many downtown shops stayed open later for the occasion- and although there was social distancing guidelines in place, there was a visit from Santa Claus for the kids.
Police Investigating Hit and Run
On Friday at approximately 7:20 PM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to the 300 Block of Bedford Street for a hit and run. Officers spoke to the victim and they advised their vehicle was parked behind a red vehicle. When they went to leave they observed a dent in the front bumper with red paint transfer. Woman Charged for interfering with Arrest
On Fridayt the Cumberland City Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Kelsi Sue May. On 10/17/2021 at approximately 2:00 AM an officer was administering field sobriety tests on a subject when May began yelling at the officer. May was not involved in the traffic stop at all and was only a passerby. The officer had to divert their attention multiple times to May and advise her not to interfere with the stop. The operator was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence and then officer was able to get May’s information. The officer applied for charges through the District…

Interested individuals can register for an appointment at health.maryland.gov/allegany. Cumberland Man Arrested on Thanksgiving
On Thursday, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Kaden Jean Crabtree charging him with disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. The summons was issued by District Court in reference to an incident that occurred back on November 21st, 2021 when officers responded for an assault complaint at an E. Second Street residence. When officers arrived, Crabtree became argumentative and created a disturbance while officer attempted to investigate the complaint. He signed and received copies of the charging documents and was released pending trial at District Court. Kaden Jean Crabtree, age; 22, Cumberland, Maryland.
Gov. Hogan appreciates Marylanders shopping, eating local on Thanksgiving
Gov. Larry Hogan thanked Marylanders for shopping and eating local by incorporating products that were grown, produced, or harvested in Maryland into their Thanksgiving meals. Former president Donald Trump has endorsed Maryland Del. Daniel Cox’s bid for the Republican nomination for governor. Trump’s endorsement this week brings national attention to the primary race and highlights two different visions for the Republican Party.
