Republican Harford County Executive Barry Glassman has announced his candidacy to be Maryland's next comptroller. Incumbent Democrat Peter Franchot will be running for governor in next year's election. Glassman previously served in both the House of Delegates and the state Senate. "The next comptroller will need to be tested with governmental experience and someone who has advocated to protect the state's taxpayers and small businesses," Glassman said in a statement. "After all, the comptroller is the voice of all our taxpaying families and is also their watchdog."

On Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Amtrak Station located on Gulf Memorial Drive for the report of a male acting disorderly.  When officers arrived, contact was made with an employee who stated that a male has shown up at the stations several times this week trying to board a train without a ticket.  Officers then made contact with the male who was identified as Eddie Robinson.  Robinson immediately started creating a disturbance in front of officers that it was disturbing other pedestrians in area.  He was warned by officers numerous times to lower his…

Although the Allegany County Public School system saw a decline in student population of more than 200- it won’t have a negative impact on the budget thanks to the governor’s “hold harmless provision”.  The board was among the groups presenting it’s FY 2022 budget request to the County Commissioners this month- and once again the school board is seeking no significant increase in funding. Governor Larry Hogan’s budget this year included $7.5 billion towards K-12 education- part of which will allow schools to be held harmless from declining enrollment figures. The Maryland Salem Children’s Trust will reopen in September, partnering with Grafton Integrated Health Network, of Winchester, a group that provides services to both children and adults. Board President Matt Eichorn made the announcement on the Dave Norman Program Wednesday morning… Salem had been forced to close in June of last year, citing declining enrollment and increased expentidures.  Since that time, efforts have been underway to find a way to reopen the facility which is located near Lower New Germany Road in Eastern Garrett County.
