The Salvation Army will partner with the Boys & Girls Club of America and the Maryland National Guard to offer a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Cumberland location on 701 E. 1st Street on Monday, April 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or until supplies run out. Rutherford Announces Decision Not to Run for Governor in ’22
Maryland Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford has announced that he will not be a candidate for governor in next year's election. "After months of careful reflection and consideration, I have decided not to run to become the next Governor of Maryland in 2022. This was a decision that I made with my family's best interest in mind," said Rutherford in a statement. Governor Larry Hogan will not be eligible for reelection because of Maryland state law limiting the office holder to two consecutive terms.

Police Serve Criminal Summons
On Wednesday April 14, 2021, the Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Michael Butler, age 26 of Cumberland, Maryland. The Summons stems from an October 29, 2020 incident where officers were serving an Arrest Warrant on Butler. During Butlers arrest, he attempted to conceal the CDS by passing it off to another person. Officers were able to recover what they believed to an amount of heroin. The suspected heroin was seized and sent to the lab for further testing. Once the lab results were retuned, officers applied for charges in District Court. City, Bedford Road Fire Department Settle Hydrant Dispute
A dispute between the Bedford Road Volunteer Fire Department and the city of Cumberland over the use of a fire hydrant for training purposes was resolved Tuesday when the two parties met at City Hall. Bedford Road Fire Chief Eddie Collins took part in the meeting with Mayor Ray Morriss, City Administrator Jeff Rhodes and Jim Pyles, the director of the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services. James Maynard, Jr., age 53, of Boonesboro, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to a federal charge for coercion and enticement of a minor in order to produce and distribute child pornography. The guilty plea was announced by Acting United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Jonathan F. Lenzner; Special Agent in Charge Jennifer C.
