Teen drowning victim in Ocean City Identified

WBAL NewsRadio  has confirmed the identity of the teenage swimmer who drowned in the Atlantic Ocean off of Ocean City this week. His mother, Ren Rick, confirms 17-year-old Azure Storm Martin died this week. Martin, who was from Annapolis, was reported missing Wednesday afternoon in the ocean off of 112th Street, when he got caught in a rip current.  The Ocean City Beach Patrol said three other swimmers were pulled to safety.  Martin's body was recovered from the ocean near 12th Street Thursday afternoon. Maryland releases COVID-19 post-vaccination infections data

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) yesterday released new COVID-19 post-vaccination infections data, adding to its robust COVID-19 data reporting available at coronavirus.maryland.gov. Garrett County Traffic Stop leads to Drug and Gun Arrests

A traffic stop by an alert trooper in Garrett County last night led to the recovery of guns, drugs and the arrests of two suspects, one of whom was wanted in Georgia.    The suspects are identified as Earnest Moreland III, 34, of Decatur, GA, and Donnell Lipscomb, 39, of Essex, Md.  Both were charged with more than one dozen counts each related to the illegal possession of guns and drugs.  Both were ordered held without bond, following their initial appearance before a court commissioner.    Shortly after 8:00 p.m. yesterday, a Maryland state trooper from the McHenry Barrack was…

Police Respond to Breaking-and-Entering of Vacant Property

On Friday, August 6th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded to a vacant residence on Lennox Place for the report of individuals inside that are not supposed to be there.  When officers arrived, they observed the rear door had been forced open.  Officers made entry and found a male, identified as Cory Jacob Bennett, hiding upstairs.  Bennett was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property and 4th degree burglary.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was released on his own personal recognizance pending trial.   Cory Jacob Bennett, age; 32, Cumberland, Maryland.

City Man Charged with Public Intoxication, Making False Statements

On Thursday, August 5th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Robert Christopher Cain charging him with littering and identity fraud to avoid prosecution.  The summons was issued by District Court in reference to an incident that occurred on August 4th, 2021 in the area of Canal Street when an officer issued him a citation for public consumption of alcohol and later discovered that Cain had given him a fictious name.  At the time of service, Cain was again found to be in possession of an alcoholic beverage in public and was issued another citation.  He received…

Hogan Sets COVID Guidelines for State Employees

Governor Larry Hogan announced Thursday that state employees who work in congregant settings with vulnerable citizens must be vaccinated or face regular Covid testing. Maryland state employees who work in congregate settings must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination effective Sept. 1.
