Deep Creek Voluneer Fire Department units were dispatched to Marsh Hill Road for a dog that fell approximately 10 feet into an overflow pipe. Engine 31 along with Garrett County EMS responded. Upon arrival units were met by the owners of the pup and were directed where to go. Engine 31 crew assembled ropes for rigging an attic ladder and flashlights and began the half mile hike to the location. Police Make Drug Arrests

On Friday an officer from the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of Columbia Street where they made contact with the operator Brian Kelvin Reddy II. A K-9 was requested which indicated a positive alert on the vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed several items of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. Reddy was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department. Once at the police station a quantity of suspected heroin, suspected fentanyl, and a sum of US currency were located on his person, which indicated the distribution of the controlled dangerous substances….

Strong Response to COVID Vaccine Interest Form in Allegany County

Since the launch of a new online COVID-19 Vaccine Interest Form on Wednesday, the form has received nearly 5,500 responses.  The joint effort by the Allegany County Health Department and UPMC Western Maryland is intended to streamline the process of scheduling vaccination appointments for individuals in the Governor’s priority groups as vaccine becomes available.    “The way the system works, individuals enter their name, age, city of residence, email address and phone number and answer a few basic health and occupational questions,” explained Brenda Caldwell, Public Information Coordinator for the Allegany County Health Department.  “That information goes into a database…

West Virginia official: Vaccines already making an impact

West Virginia's coronavirus czar said Friday that vaccinations are already reducing COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations in the state. Less than two months into the vaccination drive, Dr. Clay Marsh, a high-ranking West Virginia University health official, said there is a 40% to 45% reduction in deaths linked to COVID-19 from December to January and hospitalizations are down more than 50%. “Which we do believe is directly related to the aggressive vaccination that we've done,” Marsh said at the governor's coronavirus news conference. About 11.5% of the state's population has received at least one vaccine dose, while nearly 5% are fully vaccinated.
