17 New COVID cases reported in Allegany County since Wednesday
The Allegany County Health Department reports that 17 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 since Wednesday, bringing the total case count for Allegany County to 521. The latest cases include two females and two males in their teens, two females and a male in their 20s, a female in her 30s, two females in their 40s, two males and a female in their 50s, a male and female in their 60s, a female in her 70s and a female in her 80s. City Announces Temporary Closure of Basketball Courts at Mason Sports Complex
The Parks and Recreation Department will be temporarily closing the new basketball courts located at the Mason Sports Complex to allow for the application of a topcoat to the courts. This process will extend the life of the courts, providing long-term enjoyment for basketball players utilizing the courts. The closure of the basketball courts will begin on Tuesday, October 13th and will run through Monday, October 26th. MEC won’t begin winter sports schedule til next year
The Mountain East Conference Board of Directors unanimously decided today to begin winter sports no earlier than January 1, 2021. The MEC joins the majority of NCAA Division II conferences that have delayed the start of winter sports until January 2021. The MEC's winter sports include men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's indoor track and field and wrestling.
Weekend Parties Spreads COVID in Allegany County
The Allegany County Health Department reports that individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 who were in attendance at large private parties for teenagers held Saturday, October 3 in Allegany County. People who attended these events are encouraged to watch for symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms may include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. State Fire Marshal urges “Haunted House” Fire Safety
The start of Halloween season is upon us, which means, typically, dozens of haunted house attractions would be preparing to open to the public all across Maryland. However, this year, the state's COVID-19 pandemic emergency has closed or significantly reduced the number of attractions. State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci wants to remind everyone the State Fire Prevention Code requires adequate fire protection to be provided in "Haunted Houses" and special amusement buildings. Positive Test Could Lead to Loss of Area Football
According local football authority Todd Helmick, area football may be in jeopardy after an Allegany football player reportedly has tested positive for COVID-19. According to Helmick, the football team was told to quarantine for 14 days and did not practice Thursday. Depending on other positive tests, and if Allegany would have to shut down their season, this would put the rest of the area schools at a loss on scheduling and may lead to the whole season to be shuttered.

On October 7th, 2020 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Steven Eaton. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court of Maryland when Eaton failed to appear for his Court appearance on October 5th, 2020. Maryland State Police are searching for a missing runaway juvenile. The missing child is Danelle Ruth Miller, 14 years of age. She was last seen on Wednesday, 10/7/20, at approximately 1230 hours when she left her residence in the Grantsville area of Garrett County, Maryland. She was wearing a black zip up jacket, blue jeans, green tennis shoes and a blue and gold Northern Huskies backpack.
